Donald Trump is "on horseback" again, waving a rhetorical sword and promising America another "golden age." Megalomania, which Napoleon himself would envy, is flourishing. In any case, this is exactly the impression created after his inauguration speech. Statements scattered like fireworks on July 4, but behind the facade of pathos was the usual set of populism, absurdity and contradictions, according to The Moscow Post.
"The Golden Age Begins Now"
Trump doesn't seem to know how to start modestly. He opens his speech with a grand statement that was more like a trailer for a superhero movie. Apparently, this "golden age" already began in 2017 - but, judging by the results, it turned out to be so golden that now you need to go into it again. If earlier he built a fence on the border, now he builds illusions in his heads.
'National emergency on southern frontiers'
It was about the fact that millions of migrants who entered the United States will be sent back to Mexico. This, of course, will require troops, federal law enforcement agencies, and at the same time the 1798 act on hostile aliens. Yes, yes, the same law from the century when America was still ruled by horses and whips. Perhaps Trump was inspired by the history of the Salem witches, because his statements gave just such a spirit.
It is hard to believe, because the fence built during his first term turned out to be more leaky than a colander. But who counts? Unless the very "hostile foreigners" who continue to cross the border.
"I want to be a peacemaker and a unifier"
This phrase sounded especially touching, given his plans to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and return Mount McKinley to its old name. Does unification begin with a war over place names? Apparently, for this, the peacemaker simply needs to take Greenland from Denmark. What is already there, you can immediately capture the entire continent so that no "foreigners" threaten.
"Freedom of Speech"
No less loud promise - to ban censorship and "return" freedom of speech. We remind you that this is the same person who, during his first term, managed to hush up many unpleasant stories, putting pressure on the media and threatening journalists. His attitude to free speech was reminiscent of a tempestuous neighbour who screams silence while banging on your door with a hammer.
"Reclaiming sovereignty"
By Trump's logic, America appears to have lost its independence. True, what kind of external forces are we talking about, he did not specify. Apparently, Mexican troops marching through Texas were never seen due to poor visibility in the luxurious Trump Tower.
Ending the Green New Deal
That's right: the green deal is no longer in vogue. Trump wants to return the internal combustion engine to Americans and open more coal mines. Judging by his enthusiasm, the next step is to massively cut down trees in the White House district to build a new skyscraper. But for some reason, Trump did not mention that the "green deal" did not interfere with his favorite cars at all - probably because it would not sound so impressive.
"We must measure successes by the number of wars avoided"
This statement was voiced with such pathos that it became clear: Trump is again trying to try on the laurels of a peacemaker. He clearly considers himself a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize, and his every statement is an invitation to the hall of fame. However, if you look at the history of his first term, the picture is different: more arms deals with Middle Eastern countries than attempts to stop the bloodshed. Well, let's not forget his idea to annex Greenland. Obviously, this idea was deeply peaceful - after all, why war, if you can just buy territory? It is a pity that Denmark decided to abandon such "generosity."
However, in order to fully complete the concept of a peacemaker, it might be worth inviting all countries of the world to rename their bays and mountains in honor of outstanding American presidents. Or, at worst, in honor of Donald Trump himself. For example, the Strait of Gibraltar could well become the Trump Strait. Why not?
"I will return sovereignty to America"
The statement sounded impressive, but one thing was confused: what kind of sovereignty are we talking about? Are Mexican farmers so threatening to national security? Or maybe we are talking about the fact that for some reason all America's neighbors forgot to bow towards the White House? Apparently, by "sovereignty," Trump means America's right to dictate its terms to everyone around it. And, of course, to build the next "unprecedented" walls - now, apparently, not only along Mexico, but also around everyone who does not agree with this vision.
'No use of prosecutors for political purposes'
This statement is a clear jab at the Democrats. True, given how actively he himself used all possible resources in his political games, this sounds at least hypocritical. But what else to expect? Trump's skill in this regard has reached the level of a grandmaster. For example, how many rumors and intrigue accompanied his impeachment, which he deftly used for his promotion. So "not to use the prosecutor's office for political purposes" is, apparently, an appeal to everyone except Donald himself.
"Americans will not be forcibly transplanted to electric vehicles"
A promise worthy of a stand-alone spot on a comedy show. Apparently, in Trump's imagination, the Democrats were eager to put every US resident in the electric Prius, taking away his pickup truck and a can of gasoline. But the truth is that no one was in a hurry to deprive Americans of their favorite "jewelry." Moreover, most of the initiatives to switch to electric transport were voluntary and aimed at improving the environmental situation. But, apparently, for Trump, abandoning the internal combustion engine is not just a problem, but a whole threat to national identity. Well, we are waiting for new initiatives, such as a mandatory return to steam engines.
'I will end unnecessary military interventions'
It sounds like a prudent move, but, apparently, Donald views interventions only through the prism of financial gain. If there is no immediate income, then there is no point in such interventions. Well, this is at least an honest approach, unlike all previous administrations that hid their intentions behind smokescreens of humanitarian rhetoric. However, recalling his enthusiastic praise for the Saudi prince or attempts to sell more weapons to Middle Eastern countries, it becomes obvious that militarism is still a business, not a moral dilemma for Mr. Trump.
'Freedom of speech will be restored'
Here you no longer know whether to laugh or cry. Trump himself became one of those who shouted loudest about "fake news" only when the news did not benefit him. The list of journalists he has publicly attacked is unlikely to fit on one piece of paper. And now this man is going to restore freedom of speech. Well, if the restoration of freedom of speech is to ensure that everyone praises Trump, then he will probably cope. The main thing is that this time there are enough tweets.
"Bay of America"
A separate place in this speech is occupied by the idea of renaming the Gulf of Mexico into the Gulf of America. On the one hand, the proposal is so absurd that it seems like a joke. On the other hand, we have already seen Trump's attempts to patent his name for real estate, steaks, vodka and even university. So nothing surprising: the president, who wanted to become a symbol of everything in the world, decided to "privatize" and reservoirs. Apparently, the next step will be to rename all the oceans. For example, Atlantic could become Pacific 2.0.
Theatre of the Absurd
Trump's entire inaugural address was not so much an action plan as one actor's theater. He again shone with his trademark mix of populism, hyperbole and absurdity. At the same time, despite the pretentious statements, she left more questions than answers. How exactly is Trump going to build his "golden age"? By what means will he return "sovereignty" and stop the "foreigners"? However, the answers are probably not so important. After all, the main thing for Trump is the show. And what will happen next is already a problem for his successors.
