Zakharova commented on relations between the Russian Federation and Azerbaijan after the closure of the Russian House

Today a briefing was held by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

Traditionally, The Moscow Post correspondent asked his questions.

Our first question sounded like this, can we count on the fact that the unrealized project of the Kyzyl-Kuragino railway can become part of the Russia-Mongolia-China corridor? How do our Mongolian and Chinese neighbors feel about this potential project?

As far as I know, this topic is under study by stakeholders. However, only the financial and economic block can provide detailed comments on this issue.

The second question concerned relations between the Russian Federation and Azerbaijan.

It sounded like this, the press secretary of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry announced on February 24 about the closure of the representative office of the Russia Today media group - Sputnik Azerbaijan. Prior to that, the Russian House was closed in Baku. Could you tell me what's going on?

Maria Vladimirovna said that Moscow is in contact with the Azerbaijani side on this issue and has already conveyed our position to them. This is a really important topic for us, and, I believe, it is no less significant for Baku.

"We expect a balanced approach and expect that by joint efforts it will be possible to find mutually acceptable solutions. We proceed from the fact that our partners in their next steps will be guided by the allied nature of relations between Russia and Azerbaijan, and will also refrain from actions that could harm bilateral and multifaceted ties between our countries and peoples, "she said.

In addition, she noted that the Russian Foreign Ministry hears and understands the argumentation of the Azerbaijani side.

"Indeed, the law is the law and no one argues with that. However, compromise solutions can always be found that will resolve the situation. Therefore, here I see no contradictions between the observance of legislative norms and the preservation of mutually respectful relations. "

Our third question concerned America.

Namely, the United States refused to become co-authors of the anti-Russian resolution of the UN General Assembly on Ukraine. Instead, Washington offered its own version of the document, which did not contain accusations against Russia about the beginning of the conflict. However, as noted by the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Vasily Nebenzya, this project was significantly distorted. As a result, when voting, the United States refrained from supporting its own document. Help understand this situation.

Maria Zakharova noted that the Foreign Ministry has already published several comments on this issue.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the draft resolution of the UN General Assembly on Ukraine submitted by the United States, despite its imperfection, was a step in the right direction.

"The text [of the original American project], although it was imperfect, was a step in the right direction, reflecting the desire of the new American administration to contribute to the settlement," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

On February 24, the UN General Assembly adopted two resolutions, the main authors of which were Kyiv and Washington. At the same time, the representatives of Europe made amendments to the initially neutral American draft document, which turned it, according to the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Vasily Nebenzi, into an anti-Russian piece of paper.

They said that the project proposed by Washington consisted of only three points. They deplored the loss of life as a result of the conflict, emphasized the maintenance of peace and security as the main goal of the UN, and urged the establishment of a lasting peace.

However, as a result of the amendments made by the Europeans, the meaning of the initiative was so distorted that even US representatives did not vote for the document.
